The only certainty about the future is that it is not a certainty. Because of this, creating a supply of storable food for your family makes good sense.
There are many reasons to store some food. Here are some:
- Economic Downturn
- Erratic Weather (earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, tornados, droughts)
- Contamination of Food Supplies
- Disruptions in Transportation
- Social Unrest
- Acts of Terrorism
Being prepared for a disaster can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses. This means having your own food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for an extended period of time. If you don’t prepare beforehand, you will solely be dependent on relief organizations and the government. Not a great position to be in. A prime example is how New Orleans residents fared after Hurricane Katrina.
Let’s look at some other reasons. It is estimated that 70% to 80% of the bees have disappeared. We don’t know why. What most people also don’t know is how important the bees are in putting the food on their dinner table. What will we do if more of the bees disappear? It is clear to scientists that if this happens, the quality and quantity of food will decline rapidly from the grocery store shelves.
At the end of the 1950s, the U.S. produced enough food to feed the entire world five times over. Now, the U.S. can grow enough food to feed its population, so we are dependent on imports from other countries. But how safe is the food imported from those countries? You surely are aware of the many reports of contaminated food coming in from China. What has happened to us as a nation that we have allowed this to happen?
Another shocking fact is that last year, the Earth did not produce enough food to cover what was eaten. How long can this continue before we start seeing shortages of foods appearing at the grocery stores?
The fact is that you do not control the destiny of you and your family if you have to run to the supermarket every few days to buy food. If there is a breakdown at any point in the food distribution chain, food will start to disappear from the grocery store shelves. Do you really want to take the chance that your family won’t have enough food to eat when they need it to most?
Remember, when you have your own food supply, you’ll never have to stand in a food line and beg for help.
