The Grocery Store Shelves Are Going Empty in Britain
The Icelandic volcano erruption is causing more problems in Europe besides air travel. British supermarkets could start running short on goods such as fruit and vegetables if the island’s airspace remains closed into next week.
“Some items, could soon be in reduced supply if the volcanic ash cloud remains over Britain”, warns Christopher Snelling, head of global supply chain policy for the Freight Transport Association. “There are no shortages yet, but we may start to see certain ranges affected if this carries on.”
“The longer that UK airspace is closed, the greater the damage to the nation’s food supply.”
